998 Recess Mount PIR Motion Detector'
1 The ASC Edge: Superior RFI Test Methods The Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) test method used by Ademco's Quality Assurance department is superior to the methods used by most other manufacturers. A Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) cell used by most other manufacturers is a small chamber in which products are placed and then irradiated with RF energy at an established level to try to induce a false alarm. Unfortunately, TEM cells are susceptible to standing waves and other phenomena which have a tendency to overstate the level of immunity. Ademco uses a full-size, shielded RF chamber that more realistically emulates real world conditions. To maintain high accuracy, the chamber is calibrated to the desired RF energy level at every test frequency prior to running each test. Comparison tests between and Ademco's full-size chamber and a TEM cell have shown that an immunity of 10V/m in Ademco's chamber corresponds to an immunity of 20-30V/m in a TEM cell.
